Raynaud’s phenomenon associated with nitric acid: Case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Raynaud phenomenon is a clinical disorder, characterized by episodic attacks of vasospasm of peripheral arteries and arterioles, causing tissue ischemia of distal portions of the body, such as hands and feet, causing changes in skin color such as pallor, cyanosis and hyperemia. The occurrence of the Raynaud phenomenon in people who handle organic solvents or vibratory tools has been associated for a long time, and it has even been described that the solvents may be triggering some immune diseases such as scleroderma, however, as far as we know there are no reports of exposure of chemical compounds used in metallurgy, such as nitric acid and the development of scleroderma-spectrum diseases. This article presents a clinical case related to the appearance of Raynaud’s phenomenon against exposure to chemical compounds used in metallurgy, especially nitric acid. © 2016 Asociación Colombiana de Reumatologı́a. Raynaud’s phenomenon is a common clinical disorder encountered by dermatologists. This condition usually occurs in response to exposure to cold temperature or emotional stress, and it is characterized by recurrent vasospasm in the fingers and toes. Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is a well-recognized cause of secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon. The pathogenesis of HAVS involves a complex interpl...

Carpal tunnel syndrome and Raynaud’s phenomena are common diseases and coexist in some patients while in others Raynaud’s phenomenon may be a clinical feature of carpal tunnel syndrome. Serotonin has been shown to play a significant role in diseases related to vascular dysregulation like Raynaud’s phenomenon (Hollenberg, 1988), erythromelalgia (Rudikoff and Jaffe, 1997),migraine (Bonvento et al., 1991) and perimenopausal hot flushes (Berendsen, 2000). In recent years there have been several reports on the efficacy of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) fluoxeti...
